Great Silence

Film Movement Classics of New York are releasing a newly restored 2K transfer of Sergio Corbucci’s fabulous snow-bound Spaghetti Western The Great Silence (Italy/France, 1968) on Blu-ray in June. See Lee Broughton’s book The Euro-Western: Reframing Gender, Race and the “Other” in Film (I.B. Tauris, 2016) for a detailed reading of the film and discussion of the socio-political and generic significance of its female African American protagonist, Pauline (who is played with much dignity by the soon-to-be icon of Blaxploitation flicks, Vonetta McGee). The film also stars Jean-Louis Trintignant, Klaus Kinski, Luigi Pistilli and Frank Wolff and features an outstanding soundtrack score by Ennio Morricone.
