The ‘Filming in Croatia’ web site has reported that extensive location work relating to a new trilogy of Winnetou films has been completed recently. Further filming and post-production work is now currently taking place in Germany. The three films – Winnetou and His Old Friend Shatterhand, Winnetou: The Treasure of Silver Lake and The End of Winnetou) are all being directed by Philipp Stölzl. The Apache chief Winnetou is played by Nik Xhelilaj while the German emigre Old Shatterhand is played by Wotan Wilke Möhring. Gojko Mitić, who starred in the series of Indianer films that were produced by East Germany’s DEFA studios during the 1960s and 1970s, will appear as Magua/Tangua. The trilogy is expected to be released towards the end of 2016.
